You're so beautiful
But that's not why I love you
And I'm not sure you know
That the reason I love you is you
The reason I love you is all that we've been through
And that's why I love you
One day, about 13 years ago, my baby brother brought home a girl. Tiny little thing, dark clothes, black eyeliner, Avril Lavigne on loop. Literally the complete opposite to him, you couldn’t have found anyone more different. She soon became a permanent fixture in our home and in our hearts. They’ve grown up together, built up an amazing life together, pushed each other towards their dreams and achieved everything they set out for and more. I’m so very very proud of them both and it’s been incredible to watch them both grow into the people they are today.
“We’re never getting married” That’s what they aways said. You’ve probably guessed by now that somewhere along the line they changed their minds…
These two are always full of surprises. Randomly bringing home a pet lizard, getting a job in Africa, that kind of thing. I never thought “We’re eloping to Scotland, don’t tell anyone!” was going to be one of them. And by don’t tell anyone, that also meant our parents and their friends. I’m no good with secrets and quickly developed a nervous twitch, especially during and after Beth’s ‘hen do’ in Edinburgh that I couldn’t possibly go into detail about (let’s just say, a hen do with only two people can still go terribly, terribly wrong)
Dalhousie Castle is the traditional seat of the Ramsay clan. We knew about this castle but had never visited, it is beautiful! They knew straight away that this was the perfect place and it really was just the most amazing, laid back and romantic day. Beth channeled her inner Merida from Brave with her red hair; her boho wedding dress was just so beautiful, paired perfectly with some Dr Martens boots and the most gorgeous flower crown. Alex payed homage to our Scottish roots by wearing a kilt in our Ramsay tartan, he looked incredible! The whole day really was a dream.
I’d just like to give a huge shout out to Andrew the Piper at Dalhousie. If you ever visit (and you should) then it wouldn’t be complete without meeting this wonderful man, he really is the heart of that castle. He spoke to Alex just before the ceremony and met Beth at the bottom of the stairs to give her some beautiful words of wisdom before piping her into the ceremony room. He piped us down to our meal later on and was even there to see us off when we were leaving the next day. He provided so many of our memorable moments and he will always be remembered fondly.
I could write a whole ten page article but I won’t, I’ll leave you to enjoy their images. We went for a long walk through the woods and came across some stunning spots which provided the perfect backdrop for this perfect pair. Also look out for our brother Will and Beth’s brother Lewis who are both on the other side of the world and also had no idea what was going on. It was such a lovely moment video calling them both and surprising them with the news!
Alex and Beth I love you both lots. Thank you for having me along for the ride (even if it was just so I’d take your photos) and letting me and Steve witness this really special moment with you.
